Recognizable Before You Read the Door

A law enforcement vehicle needs to be recognizable before anyone reads the words on the door.

On July 1, 2025, Black Diamond Designs worked on a 10-truck law enforcement fleet graphics project in Livonia, Michigan, for Chevrolet 2500HD trucks carrying the Alaska State Troopers identity. The project used reflective 3M vinyl to bring the agency’s blue, gold and white markings to the heavy-duty trucks.

One Identity Across 10 Heavy-Duty Trucks

A single vehicle is a precision job. A fleet of ten adds repeatability. Graphic position, stripe angle, lettering scale and badge placement all decide whether the trucks look like a matched set.

The design has a clear hierarchy: a bold blue diagonal field across the front door, the gold trooper badge at its center and STATE TROOPER lettering along the front fender. That keeps the identity readable from a passing side view while leaving the rest of the white truck uncluttered.

Reflective 3M Vinyl for Law Enforcement Fleet Graphics

Reflective graphics are a common choice for public-safety fleets, where visibility in changing light matters. This project specified reflective 3M vinyl. Real-world visibility also depends on design, placement, installation, lighting and vehicle setup, and we don’t claim a specific film series or reflectivity rating because those details weren’t supplied.

Why Installation Details Matter

Heavy-duty pickups have contours and hardware that make law enforcement fleet graphics harder than applying a flat decal. Doors, fenders, rocker areas, panel seams and door-handle openings all need careful alignment. Some of these photos were taken mid-installation and show the graphic worked around the door-handle opening and along the sharp edge of the blue field.

With law enforcement fleet graphics, consistency matters as much as the finish on any one truck: each repeated graphic has to hold its proportions on every matching vehicle.
