Birmingham Airport Window Graphics Installation: 3M 3630 Translucent Film

Project Date: July 18, 2023
Location: Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM), Birmingham, Alabama
Areas: Newly renovated north and south sections
Material: 3M 3630 translucent graphic film, custom cut
Client: Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (direct client)
Installed By: Black Diamond Designs

An airport is more than a place people pass through. Every entrance and exit is a chance to leave an impression.

On July 18, 2023, Black Diamond Designs completed Birmingham airport window graphics for Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. Hired directly by the airport, our team cut and installed 3M 3630 translucent graphic film on glass in the newly renovated north and south sections. The design brings blue, navy and teal geometric shapes to large architectural glass, along with the message “thank you for flying bhm.”

The full installation creates a unified visual impression around the entry.

These Birmingham airport window graphics are branding that works with the building’s glass and framing instead of competing with them.

Custom-Cut Glass Graphics in an Active Airport

The installation uses strong diagonal shapes in teal, green and deep blue. Rather than one rectangular graphic, the composition flows across separate glass panes and around the entrance-adjacent glazing.

Birmingham airport window graphics like these take a clear plan for every pane. Window mullions physically interrupt the design, but it still has to read as one continuous composition from the terminal. Small differences in the alignment of a geometric edge become easy to spot when the same diagonal crosses several windows.

Why 3M 3630 Translucent Film for Birmingham Airport Window Graphics

The project used 3M 3630 translucent graphic film, which Black Diamond Designs cut and installed to match the airport’s specified design. Translucent film lets color interact with natural and interior light, while open areas keep views through the glass.

Here, the contrast between saturated color, clear sections and the pale aluminum frames gives the graphics structure and depth. We are not claiming film specifications, lighting performance, warranties or fabrication steps beyond the materials and work confirmed for this project.

The lettering remains prominent against the darker portions of the glass design.

Coordinated Graphics in the North and South Sections

A key part of the job was installing the Birmingham airport window graphics in both the north and south renovated sections. When a facility has more than one public-facing area, a consistent graphic language matters: travelers pass through different corridors and exits, but repeated colors, shapes and messaging create one experience.

Within the Birmingham airport window graphics, the “thank you for flying bhm” lettering reinforces the airport’s local identity right at the point of departure.

Commercial Glass Graphics Take Installation Experience

Large architectural glass installations involve details that are easy to miss in finished photos. Panes differ in size and shape, metal framing divides artwork into separate application areas, and corners, door hardware, foot traffic and reflections all affect the final look.

On this project, the main challenge was carrying a dynamic geometric design across many panes while keeping clean edges and strong continuity. That is where an experienced installation team makes the difference on Birmingham airport window graphics.
